Celebrating Kwanzaa 2022! Day 4: Ujamaa
Kwanzaa Day 4!
Learn about the fourth principal of Kwanzaa: Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics) with Dr. Francine Oputa:
Yesterday, we talked about unity! Now let’s focus on how we can utilize our resources in order to elevate our community as a whole. Today is about committing to a promising future full of Black success through a shared social wealth system. Though the Black community makes up over 13% of the overall U.S population, only 2.5% of businesses are black owned while we spend 1.3 trillion dollars a year and not even a half is invested into our community.
It is important for us to look at the historical success of Black of businesses as a blueprint for Black success. Black Wall Street in Tulsa,Oklahoma thrived with entrepreneurship in the early 1900s with Black owned hair salons, theatres, restaurants, grocery stores ect.
Questions to think about today
How can we use our gifts to build and sustain generational wealth through networking?
Are there any necessities that I can buy from a Black owned business?
How can I build a social wealth system through networking?
What is my niche and how can I find other community members in that field?
Let us have conversations about wealth and continue to make a positive impact!
